Coast Guardsman awarded Distinguished Flying Cross

Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer (AST2) Spencer Matson was honored for his actions in rescuing six people from a distressed 79-ft. schooner off the Oregon-California border (see the USCG NEWS RELEASE).

But this doesn't tell the story of what Matson went through -- jumping out of a perfectly good helicopter into 50-knot winds and 20-FT SEAS.

The Lake Washington & Everett Council of the Navy League of US espouses to NLUS's four goals:
Educate national leaders and the nation * Support the men and women of the sea services
Provide assistance to sea service families * Support youth programs
