General Membership Meetings:

The first general membership meeting of 2002 was held on 20 February at the Bellevue Club. At this dinner meeting we  kicked off our celebration of the Navy League's Centennial, looked back on a very successful first year for LWC, and formalize the adoption of the Coast Guard Cutter Healy, our country's newest and biggest icebreaker and Arctic research ship. The speaker for this gala event was Vice Admiral Ray Riutta, USCG, Commander of the Coast Guard's Pacific Area.

Pier 36 The Healy is scheduled to return from its history making maiden voyage, being the first US vessel to reach the North Pole unassisted. We will have specific information just prior to her return. For more information regarding the Healy, click "Local CG Ships" on our Home page, and then click "Healy". Our own local hero - Chief Joseph Clark - Member of the original Underwater Demolition Team (predecessor to Navy Seals) Served in Pacific area in WWII including de-mining Tokyo Bay Received Certificate of Appreciation from former CNO ADM Thomas Hayward USN ret at Chartering Ceremony.
