Dear Lake Washington Council Navy League Members and Friends
During this past year, when we here in the Puget Sound are safe and warm and might have a chance to be close to those we love, please keep in mind those troops, sailors and soldiers alike, that are abroad and away from their families in service to our country. The November dinner was a big success, honoring University of Washington NROTC and the USN Sea Cadet Corps, Everett. Thank you to everyone who came out to this dinner event. It is always a great opportunity when we can honor those young men and women who are looking towards the future on the seas. I remember when I was a cadet, how old the sailors looked at those dinners. It’s funny to be on the other side now, wondering at how young they all look! The Board for the 2007 was also elected at the November dinner and were installed during our January 17th Anniversary dinner.
The adopted unit tour and lunch at the Bangor Submarine Base, aboard the USS Jimmy Carter, was a hit as well with an outstanding turnout. More than 35 Navy League members and guests got a chance to tour the submarine, meet with crewmembers, and have lunch aboard. We were also privileged with the opportunity to present awards for the outstanding Sailors of the Quarter and Year to the USS Jimmy Carter crew and the Undersea Research and Development crew. Photos from this unique opportunity are on pages 7 & 8 of the January Voyager. The Commanding Officer of the JIMMY CARTER gave an informative tale at our March meting on the ever increasing role of today’s “Silent Service”. We are looking forward to REAR ADMIRAL ROBERT O. PASSMORE ‘s talk in May and the Annual Honor the HEALY dinner this coming November. Let’s not forget to join us in honoring the Coast Guard of the Pacific Northwest at our very own sponsored Coast Guard Ball this September. I look forward to seeing each of you at our events this year and hoping to get to now even more of you in your participation of our Great Council.
Keep your family close to your heart, and those who are serving our country with courage and pride in your thoughts and prayers.
