Off-duty Coast Guard cook springs into rescue mode, saves girl from Columbia River

Recent off-duty actions of Petty Officer 2nd Class Leon Doniphan, a food service specialist aboard Coast Guard Cutter Alert, homeported in Astoria, Ore. Doniphan bravely, and without hesitation, swam to the aid of a young girl in immediate danger of drowning in the Columbia River. His actions most likely saved her life.

United States Coast Guard - Acquisition Directorat

More business for a Lake Washington Council Corporate Member, Kvichak Marine Industries, Inc.

The Coast Guard has awarded a contract for eleven more Response Boats-Medium (RB-M). Kvichak was also recently awarded a contract for a commercial version of the RB-M for the Seattle Police Department.

Congratulations to the Boeing Company, a Lake Washington Council Community affiliate, on the successful initial flight of its P-8I anti-submarine warfare aircraft built for Indian navy.

Tuskegee Airmen Observe 70-Year Legacy

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8, 2011 - More than 650 people gathered Aug. 3-7 for the 40th annual Tuskegee Airmen convention, which featured events throughout the national capital region.

This year's theme, "70 Years of Aviation Excellence: Then, Now, the Future," celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Tuskegee Airmen legacy.

Marines Train on Robotic Truck for Future Convoys

McChord Airmen presented Air Medal for historic Antarctic mission

7/29/2011 - JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -- The C-17 Globemaster III aircrew members of "Ice 68" from the 62nd and 446th Airlift Wings here were presented the Air Medal on July 29 by Gen. Raymond E. Johns Jr., Air Mobility Command commander, for their part in evacuating an ailing government contractor from McMurdo Station, Antarctica, in June.

Navy to Disestablish 29 NJROTC Units

Due to low enrollment and budget issues, the Navy has decided to disestablish 29 NJROTC units, including those at Issaquah High School and Mariner High School in Everett. Academy Grads Look to Future of Service

ANNAPOLIS, Md., May 27, 2011 - Thomas Yuhaniak knew when he was just 5 years old what he wanted in life: to become a pilot, then ultimately, an astronaut. But it was when he was in fourth grade, and his family visited the U.S. Naval Academy here during a vacation to Washington, D.C., that Yuhaniak laid eyes on the Freedom 7 space capsule at the academy's visitor center and sealed his decision to go Navy.
